Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire says that another special legislative session is a possibility if Medicaid match money doesn’t come through from the federal government.
The U.S. House last week eliminated from a spending bill an increased Medicaid match rate that would cost Washington about $480 million already tied to the state’s reserves. Majority Democrats banked on that money for the state budget to guard against increased costs or lower-than-expected tax collections.
Gregoire says next week’s state economic forecast, and the next one in September, will let her know how dire the situation is. (AP)
