Idaho to hold meetings on new education standards

The state Department of Education will hold a series of meetings across Idaho to highlight new rigorous learning standards for students in kindergarten through 12th grades.

Idaho is among 48 states that agreed last year to adopt the new Common Core State Standards in English, language arts and math. A final version of the new education goals was released last week.

The state will now begin the process of adopting the new standards, which will ultimately go to the state Board of Education and Idaho lawmakers for approval.

The Education Department has scheduled nearly two weeks of meetings, starting Monday in Pocatello, to explain and gather feedback on the common core standards.  A meeting will be held in Lewiston on Tuesday, June 15, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Lewis-Clark State College.
