Funds earmarked for economic development in Clearwater, Idaho, Lewis counties

Clearwater, Idaho and Lewis counties are among several rural areas in Idaho that have been selected to share $500,000 per year in funding to support full-time economic development professionals.

The 17 rural areas will receive financial support from July 1, 2010 through at least June 30, 2011, with the opportunity of continued support through 2013. The 17 recipients include 13 existing programs and four programs that are receiving funding for the first time.

Clearwater County will received $35,000, while a total of $35,000 has been earmarked for Idaho and Lewis counties.

The Economic Development Professionals Program began in 2001 under the Idaho Rural Initiative. Under the program, the state contributes to the salary of economic development experts serving rural communities, working in partnership with local boards of directors and other groups to bring new jobs and investment to rural Idaho.
