Clarkston man who jumped into river faces drug charge

A Clarkston man faces drug and resisting arrest charges after jumping into the Clearwater River to avoid police.

A June 16 preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nathan King.

King, 30, was part of a group contacted by Nez Perce County sheriff’s deputies at the Clearwater River Casino Monday morning. Casino security called authorities after King was allegedly observed on surveillance cameras inside the building dropping a small baggy that later tested positive for methamphetamine. King ran across U.S. Highway 12/95 and into the Clearwater River, prompting an hour-long search-and-rescue mission.

King was treated for signs of hypothermia and released from St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was booked into the Nez Perce County Jail on charges of felony possession of meth, and misdemeanor resisting/obstructing.
