The best defenses against heat-related illnesses are staying out of the heat when possible and staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Sports drinks can be effective if mixed with water in a fifty-fifty solution to cut the sugar content. Â Alcoholic beverages and drinks with caffeine will only make dehydration worse.
Anyone who suffers from heat-related illnesses should seek immediate medical treatment.
