Condiment bandit fit to stand trial

A 74-year-old Boise woman has been found fit to stand trial on charges that she dumped ketchup, mayonnaise and syrup into a library book drop. Joy L. Cassidy was charged in June with malicious injury to property.

The Idaho Statesman reports she appeared in 4th District Court Tuesday, where her attorney said Cassidy passed a court-ordered mental competency exam, which means she can adequately understand court proceedings and can assist in her own defense.

Police say Cassidy dumped maple and corn syrup, ketchup and mayonnaise on library materials in a book drop at the Ada County Library on at least 10 occasions over the period of a year. (AP)
