Fiddle Creek Fire burns on 64 cares north of Riggins

A wildfire is burning on about 64 acres on the Nez Perce National Forest.

The Fiddle Creek Fire was started by lightning Monday afternoon in the upper slopes of Fiddle Creek north of Riggins.

Private individuals initially responded until Forest Service resources from the Salmon River Ranger District arrived. A dozen firefighters are on scene in addition to two helitack. Single engine air tankers from Grangeville and McCall supported firefighting efforts along with Type 3 helicopter bucket support.

Thunderstorm winds aided fire spread in grass fuels.
