Otter, Crapo will attend north Idaho Superfund cleanup meeting

Idaho Governor Butch Otter, Idaho U.S. Senator Mike Crapo and other politicians are scheduled to meet August 9 in Kellogg to discuss the proposed expansion of Superfund cleanup of mining waste in the Coeur d’Alene Basin.

Officials with the Environmental Protection Agency are looking at historic mine waste polluting the South Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River and its tributaries.

A proposed plan would clean up 300 old mining sites and expand water treatment. The work would cost $1.3 billion and last 30 years.

Crapo spokesman Lindsay Nothern says Crapo called the meeting to give local residents an opportunity to comment on the plan. (AP)
