Regional Forest Service fire crews have been busy in the wake of several lightning-caused wildfires on the Clearwater and Nez Perce National Forests.
Officials say in all, there were 55 fires in the combined zones over the past week.
Crews were able to extinguish most blazes and almost all were under a tenth of an acre in size.
Eighteen fires on the zone are being allowed to burn for resource benefit. Eight of the managed fires are located in the Mallard-Larkins Complex on the border of the North Fork District of the Clearwater National Forest and the Idaho Panhandle National Forest.
The other ten resource fires are split between Moose Creek Ranger District on the Nez Perce National Forest and the Powell Ranger District on the Clearwater Forest.
The forecast calls for sunny hot conditions through the week with possible thunderstorms near the end of the week.
Fire danger remains high and forest visitors are urged to use caution with regard to campfires.
Anyone who sees smoke is asked to contact the Interagency Dispatch Center in Grangeville at (208) 983-6800 or the nearest law enforcement agency.
