University student fighting fire can seek delay in fall start

The University of Idaho will allow student fire fighters to delay their return to school until the wildfire season slows down or ends.

Officials say with the fire season once again looking like it will extend beyond the start of the academic year August 23rd, it makes sense to offer the delay rather than risk losing students for the fall semester.

Student firefighters who will not be able to begin the school year on time need to contact the Registrar’s Office, which in turn will e-mail the information to the student’s instructors, university housing, financial aid, student accounts and the Dean of Students Office.

If a student decides not to return for the semester because of fire season, tuition and fees are refunded.

Last year the UI had 17 students delayed to campus due to fire season.

To notify the university about a delayed return, call the Registrar’s Office at (208) 885-6731 or e-mail registrar@uidaho.edu.
