The man accused of causing the boat collision on the Snake River that killed a Lewiston boy over the weekend is being held on $500,000 bond.
The Asotin County Sheriff’s Office says 15-year-old Jonas Yochum was killed when the boat he was on near Red Wolf Crossing Bridge was struck by another boat driven by 34-year-old Gordon Higheagle, of Lapwai. Higheagle allegedly was traveling at a high speed when his boat went over the top of the one Yochum was riding in, striking Yochum.
Higheagle was arraigned in Asotin County Superior Court Monday on charges of homicide by watercraft, a Class-A felony, assault by watercraft and operating a watercraft in a negligent manner under the influence of alcohol.
He is being held in the Asotin Conty Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 23.
