WA Primary: Lane, Jeffords advance in Asotin County

In the Asotin County commissioner District 3 race, Democratic incumbent Buck Lane and Republican Jim Jeffords will advance to the general election in November.

With nearly 1,200 votes cast in District 3, Lane received 46.6 percent of the vote, while Jeffords received 32.8 percent. Democrat Alice White received 20.5 percent.

Since Washington uses a top-two primary system, all other candidates in Asotin County races will move on to the general election.

In the Asotin County assessor’s race, incumbent Chris Wood received 60.5 percent of the vote, and Evan Southwick received 39.4 percent.

The County Clerk race gave Chief Deputy Clerk Marie Eggart 53.7 percent of the vote, and Leah Springer 46.3 percent.

Incumbent Asotin County prosecutor Benjamin Nichols advanced with 71.5 percent of the vote, while Richard Laws received 28.5 percent.

In the sheriff’s race, incumbent Ken Bancroft received 67 percent of the vote, and John Hilderbrand received 33 percent.

Votes will be counted again on Thursday and the official results will be posted on the county’s website on Sept. 1. The general election is November 2nd.

Voter turnout in Washington was about 27 percent in a state where all but one county vote by mail. Asotin County turnout was 40 percent, Garfield County over 50 percent, and Whitman County 29 percent.
