WA Primary: McMorris Rodgers, Hastings advance in Congressional races

Washington U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers has easily advanced to the general election in November.

Early returns have given the 5th District Republican incumbent more than 62 percent of the vote. She moves on to face Democrat Daryl Romeyn, who finished second with 12 percent of the vote. Barbara Lampert was third at 10 percent, followed by Clyde Cordero, Randall Yearout, and David Fox.

In the 4th District race, Republican Congressman Doc Hastings received 58 percent to move on to square off against Jay Clough, who had 23 percent.

Democrat Denny Heck and Republican state Rep. Jaime Herrera advanced through the primary and will face each other in the fall in their bid for the 3rd District seat of retiring Democratic U.S. Rep. Brian Baird. With 69 percent of the expected vote counted, Heck led with 32 percent of the vote. Herrera had 27 percent.

In the 8th District, GOP U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert easily advanced through the primary with 48 percent of the vote, and will face Democrat Suzan DelBene, who had 27 percent.

In the 2nd District, Democratic Rep. Rick Larsen faces challenger John Koster. Larsen advanced with 43 percent of the vote, and Koster advanced with 41 percent.

Elsewhere, incumbent Democrats Norm Dicks, Jay Inslee, Jim McDermott and Adam Smith easily advanced in their congressional districts. (AP)
