Audio: Regence encourages families to vaccinate against whooping cough

In response to an increase in the number of pertussis or whooping cough cases in Idaho, Regence BlueShield of Idaho is encouraging families to take action and ensure vaccinations are up to date.

Mike Tatko, Public Relations Manager with the the health insurer says the company is partnering with health agencies to get the word out about the importance of vaccinations.

Tatko comments on importance of vaccinations for all family members:

The vaccine to prevent pertussis is included in the regular, recommended series of immunizations given to children.

The adult pertussis vaccine is now offered in combination with one of the tetanus booster vaccines. Adults should receive a tetanus booster vaccine every 10 years, or sooner if they have certain wounds.

For more information on pertussis or vaccinations the public should contact their health care provider or any health department office.
