Republican Senate candidate Dino Rossi is challenging Democratic incumbent Patty Murray to a series of televised debates.
Murray took the top spot in this week’s “top two” primary, with about 46% of the vote. Rossi took second place, with about 33%.
Rossi says he wants five debates in Washington state, along with one nationally televised debate. He says they should be weekly starting in early September.
Murray’s campaign says “of course” they’ll look at debates. But spokeswoman Julie Edwards notes they’ll have to be compatible with the senator’s official duties in Washington, D.C.
Murray is seeking a fourth term. Rossi is a former state senator and 2-time runner-up for governor. (AP)
