ID school districts learn what they get from jobs bill; Lewiston to receive $910k

The state of Idaho is set to receive $51 million from the $10 billion education jobs bill, but local school districts will be able to decide how to spend it.

Gov. Butch Otter and Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna announced Friday the amounts each district will receive.

Districts can only use the money to pay salaries and benefits of teachers and administrators, as well as restore furlough days. Schools cannot save the money in reserve accounts, nor can they pay for district-level staffers. Officials have 27 months to spend it and must contact the Idaho Department of Education by Sept. 3 to accept the money. S

chools districts will get money based on how much the state already has given them this year, meaning the larger the district, the more money is doled out. The largest, Meridian Joint School District, receives the greatest share under the allocation table at $5.9 million.

Local school district allocations:

Lewiston School District, $910, 562; Orofino Joint, $267,012; Kamiah Joint, $121,422; Lapwai, $114,784; Cottonwood Joint, $101,657; Whitepine, $80,509; Genesee Joint, $78,136; Nezperce Joint, $54,569; Salmon River Joint, $48,184; Culdesac Joint, $46,111; and Prairie Elementary, $4,510.  (IdahoReporter.com)
