Clarkston couple safe after boat sinks in Snake River

A Clarkston couple were safe Sunday night after their boat sank in the Deer Head Rapids on the Snake River.

According to the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office, Daniel Schlee and his wife were northbound through the rapids around 5 p.m. when their 16-and-a-half-foot Marlin jet boat began taking on water.

They jumped in the river and used the boat’s seat cushions as flotation devices, until occupants of another boat helped the Sclhees to the Idaho shore.
