Audio: Pilot project looks to make recycling easier for Lewiston residents

Sunshine Disposal and Recycling is in the process of initiating a new pilot program in Lewiston designed to make recycling easier for consumers.

General Manager Dick O’Connor says the goal of the program is to see if newer, larger containers are warranted and to encourage more people to recycle.

O’Connor comments on the new recycling pilot project:

Recycling programs across the country have grown over the past decade with more and more reusable items working their way back into circulation, and less taking up space in already overrun landfills.

O’Connor comments on how recycling benefits the environment:

Sunshine crews are delivering the new 64-gallon roll carts and the program is scheduled to begin the week of September 9th.

Glass is not allowed in the recycling bins, however those customers who want to recycle glass, may use Sunshine’s blue bins for glass items and crews will pick it up the same day.

Anyone with questions regarding the pilot program, or who didn’t receive a cart is asked to call Sunshine Disposal at (208) 743-4075 or (208) 743-5900.
