Three people were killed in a helicopter crash this morning in Kamiah.
The helicopter owned by Leading Edge Aviation of Clarkston went down near the area of 5th and Pine Streets, killing pilot Perry Krinitt, and two Idaho Department of Fish and Game biologists – 47-year-old Larry Barrett and 34-year-old Danielle Schiff.
Kamiah Chief Marshal Joe Newman says mechanical failure may have been the cause of the crash, but until the Federal Aviation Administration conducts its investigation, the cause is still unknown.
Newman comments on crash investigation:
According to authorities several witnesses have come forward with information on what they saw shortly before the aircraft went down.
Newman comments on witness accounts:
No injuries were reported on the ground.
The helicopter had reportedly been chartered by the Fish and Game to conduct a study on salmon spawning nests on the Selway River.
