Sawmill operations are back in action at the former Three Rivers Mill north of Kamiah.
After having been out of a job for nearly two years, 35 people were back to work Monday at Blue North Forest Products.
Three Rivers was sold in June for $2.6 million to Michael Burns, who operates Blue North Fisheries in the Seattle area. The mill had been in receivership since December 2008, when the former owners defaulted on millions of dollars in banks loans due to a depressed lumber market.
Company officials say the mill’s boilers are expected to be running within a week and the lumber planer in two weeks. Another 25 people will be added to the payroll as the mill ramps up to full operation.
The mill has been stockpiling timber from public and private sources and plans to produce mainly dimensional lumber.
