Federal officials have rounded up about 200 wild horses in Idaho after a wildfire burned too much grass to support the herd.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management says last week’s Long Butte wildfire burned most of the Saylor Creek herd’s management area.
The horses rounded up Tuesday will be shipped to Boise until federal land managers determine when they can return, though adoption may also be an option.
The last Saylor Creek roundup occurred in 2005 after the Clover Creek Fire. Some 90 horses eventually returned to Saylor Creek after that roundup. (AP)
