Voter turnout for Washington’s election last month came in at 53 percent – about 6 percentage points higher than Secretary of State Sam Reed expected.
Reed says initiatives drew attention to the off-year ballot, which did not have any statewide races for office. It was the first statewide election conducted entirely by mail.
Asotin County reported 54 percent voter turnout; Whitman County, 55.4 percent; and Garfield County, 63.9 percent.
San Juan County had the highest percentage of ballots returned, at 69.5 percent.
Election results will be certified Monday. (AP)
