Otter names Whitehead to head Idaho highway board

Jerry Whitehead

Gov. Butch Otter named a southwestern Idaho businessman and trucking industry advocate to head up the Idaho Transportation Board, the panel that makes decisions governing hundreds of millions in highway construction spending annually.

Jerry Whitehead is stepping into the role to replace Chairman Darrell Manning, who announced in December he was retiring after his latest five-year stint with the state highway agency.

Whitehead has been a member of the Idaho Transportation Board since 2009, when Otter appointed him to represent southwestern Idaho.

Whitehead founded Western Trailers, a Boise-based manufacturer of commercial truck trailers since 1969. He’s also a past chairman of the Idaho Trucking Association and Idaho Truck Pac Inc., groups which promote the interests of trucking companies.  (AP)
