Lewiston police conduct raid following “Spice” investigation

Two Lewiston convenience stores were raided Tuesday as part of an investigation into the sale of synthetic marijuana.

The Lewiston Police Department served search warrants at the BAWA Smoke Shops located at 621 Bryden Avenue and 2405 East Main Street after purchases of Spice were made from the locations over a 2-3 month investigation.

Authorities say several hundred containers of synthetic marijuana sold under the names Funky Monkey, Nola Gold and Diesel Potpourri were confiscated.

A total of six buys were made at the two stores and the drugs were sent to the Idaho State Crime Lab to be analyzed and reportedly contained AM-2201 a Schedule 1 drug. AM-2201 was adopted by the state of Idaho as a Schedule 1 drug last year and added by the federal government to its schedule about three weeks ago.

Meanwhile, a third warrant was served at a bank where the businesses are depositors, freezing the company’s accounts until the investigation is completed.

No arrests have been made, however charges are pending as the investigation continues.
