AUDIO: Gov. Otter would oppose medical marijuana bill in Idaho

Idaho Gov. Butch Otter says he would oppose efforts underway in the Capitol to pass a medical marijuana law.

A bill to legalize medical pot in Idaho is being pushed by Moscow Rep. Tom Trail.

Speaking this week at the Annual Winter Meeting of the Idaho Chiefs of Police Association in Boise, the governor told about 70 of the state’s police chiefs that while he is sympathetic to anyone who suffers from chronic pain, he believes the dangers from passing such a law outweigh any possible benefits.

Otter says Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer recently told him Schweitzer learned that lesson the hard way.

Gov. Butch Otter comments on Gov. Brian Schweitzer’s input.

Otter pointed to a number of medical marijuana states that have been embroiled in marijuana-related litigation, largely because the programs operate in violation of federal law.
