The U.S. Department of Labor has given the Idaho Department of Labor a grant of more than $1.04 million to help roughly 175 workers recently laid off from the Idaho National Laboratory.
Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis said that the workers have specialized skills that don’t translate easily to new employers. The money will go to help those workers better market their current skills and learn new skills for other industries in the region, including hospitality, education, health care, and scientific and technical services.
The workers were all laid off from the INL contractors Battelle Energy Alliance, Bechtel BWXT Idaho and CH2N WG Idaho earlier this year. (AP)
