Mother of 3-year-old killed by boyfriend waives hearing in Grangeville

A woman whose son was murdered by her live-in boyfriend in Grangeville last year has waived a preliminary hearing on felony charges of putting the child at risk.

22-year-old Angela Johnson, now of Lewiston, is charged with felony injury to a child and fraudulent procurement of public assistance in the form of food stamps.

Johnson’s 3-year-old son was beaten to death in March 2011 by her boyfriend, Todd Carver. Carver was convicted of first-degree murder in December and is serving a life sentence without parole. His conviction has been appealed, although no hearing dates have been set.

Court records accuse Johnson of willfully causing or permitting her child to be placed in a dangerous situation with Carver, who had been released from prison on grand theft charges only weeks before she and her sons moved in with him.

She also is accused of presenting food stamps to three Grangeville businesses without the authority to do so, a felony.

Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in 2nd District Court in Grangeville.
