Crew safe after Mountain Home fighter jet crashes in Asia

A fighter jet from Mountain Home Air Force Base crashed today (THU) during a routine training mission in the Middle East, but investigators have ruled out insurgent activity as a cause.

Both crew members ejected safely.

The Air Force said that the crash of the F-15E Strike Eagle happened in southwest Asia, a broad term that includes the Persian Gulf region. According to Reuters, the Pentagon said the location of the crash could not formally be released because the host government preferred not to do so. A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the plane went down in the United Arab Emirates.

More than 300 Mountain Home airmen are currently deployed to support the F-15E overseas.  (Idaho Statesman)
