Idaho voters are participating in the first primary election since the majority Republican Party shuttered its nominating process to people who aren’t registered GOP members.
Tuesday’s election features more than 300 congressional and legislative candidates.
But the closed GOP contests have taken on a bitter dimension, with House leaders including Majority Leader Mike Moyle financing efforts to oust incumbents they don’t like in both the House and Senate. Meanwhile, House Assistant Majority Leader Scott Bedke has been giving money to incumbents on Moyle’s legislative hit list, including House Majority Caucus Chairman Ken Roberts.
Several local races are on the ballot, as are a few school levies.
Polls are open until 8 p.m. Election day registration is allowed, and all voters must present a valid photo identification. (AP)
