Lewiston, NPC officials approve contracts for airport project

The Lewiston City Council and the Nez Perce County Commission both voted Monday to approve contracts for the $2.7 million construction of an apron and taxiway on the south side of the Lewiston airport.

Poe Asphalt was the low bidder on the project to develop the nearly half-mile taxiway and apron. When they opens for plane traffic in the fall, the taxiway and apron will each be 2,500 feet long – the taxi will be 50 feet wide, and the apron 300 feet wide.

The contract award is contingent on the Federal Aviation Administration approving funding and a signed grant offer from the agency before it can proceed. Those two items are expected to happen in the next few weeks.
