Idaho state controller Donna Jones injured in rollover crash on I-84 near Rupert

Donna Jones

Idaho state controller Donna Jones suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle rollover crash Friday on Interstate 84 near Rupert.

According to the Idaho State Police, Jones’ injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, but the 73-year-old from Payette was transported by life flight from a hospital in Rupert to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.

The crash was reported at 12:55 p.m. Friday.  It occurred on westbound I-84 at milepost 216, which is about 12 miles east of Rupert — near the Minidoka/Cassia county line.  Jones was alone in the vehicle, a Cadillac Escalade, and she was wearing her seatbelt.

ISP says there was no obvious explanation for the cause of the crash, and the road was dry and clear.  It appears that the vehicle went off the shoulder of the road, and Jones over-corrected, causing the rollover.

Jones was elected state controller in 2006. She previously served 12 years in the Idaho House of Representatives.  (Idaho Statesman)
