Tennessee Wesleyan stands alone as the only unbeaten team following day four of the Avista NAIA World Series at Harris Field.
Righthander Corey Rhoney allowed just two runs on five hits over 8 innings with 6 strikeouts as the 4th -seed Bulldogs handed Lee of Tennessee its first series loss 13-3. Jordan Guida went two for three with a three-run homerun and shortstop Stephen Branca added three hits and homered as Tennessee Wesleyan gave the Flames their most lopsided loss of the season.
In other action: Top-seed Louisiana State – Shreveport rallied single runs in the 8th and 9th innings to eliminate 3rd-seeded Oklahoma City 5-4. First-baseman Greg Friesen hit two homeruns and drove in four runs in the win. Oklahoma City’s Miguel Beltran hit his nation-leading 27th homerun in a losing effort. The Stars end their season with a 48-11 record. On the mound, right-hander Logan Norris threw 126 pitches over 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits to improve to 9-1 on the year.
Meanwhile, Rogers State of Oklahoma busted out more late-inning magic as the Hillcats rallied yet again to eliminate Point Park of Pennsylvania 8-6. Outfielder Eric Baker provided another game winning hit with a two-run single in the 8th inning as Rogers State rallied past the Pioneers 8-6. Shawn Spainhoward picked up his 2nd World Series victory with 3 innings of one-run relief. Point Park ends its season with a 53-11 record.
Wednesday’s schedule will pit Lee against Rogers State in an elimination game at 3pm PDT, while Tennessee Wesleyan will look to advance into the title game with a win over LSU-Shreveport at 6:30pm PDT.
