Idaho controller undergoes surgeries following car crash

The family of state Controller Donna Jones says she has undergone surgeries to repair broken bones following a car accident in southern Idaho.

Jones remained hospitalized Tuesday in the intensive care unit at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. The 73-year-old was flown to the hospital Friday following the one-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near Heyburn.

Jones’ family said Tuesday that based on her progress so far, they remain optimistic she will make a strong recovery.

State police reported Jones’ Cadillac Escalade went off the side of the road for unknown reasons. Police say Jones then overcorrected and the vehicle rolled, but she was wearing a seatbelt.

Jones was elected state controller in 2006.  (AP)
