A potential plea agreement could reduce the charge against a Genesee man implicated in the death of his girlfriend who was killed in a traffic accident last year.
21-year-old Derik Neely is charged with vehicular manslaughter for the Sept. 19 accident that killed his passenger, 20-year-old Devin Matchey. Investigators say Neely’s 1993 Infinity left the road and went down an embankment at milepost 6 on State Highway 3. Both were taken to the hospital by ambulance, and Matchey died later that night.
According to an Idaho State Police report, the car was moving a minimum of 76 mph. Neither person was wearing a seat belt.
Neely’s attorney says a potential plea bargain would reduce the charge to a misdemeanor.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for June 13 in Lewiston’s 2nd District Court.
