Idaho’s final primary tally shows record low turnout at 24.4 percent

The final results for Idaho’s primary election are in, and show that voter turnout was a little higher than initially reported but still at a record low of 24.4 percent.

The Idaho Secretary of State’s office posted the official results from the May 15 primary online. The results show that just under 186,500 of Idaho’s nearly 763,000 registered voters cast ballots during last month’s election.

Voter turnout for the primary was initially reported around 23 percent, a record low that prompted some Republican leaders to predict a debate over the merits of the party’s new closed primary at the state convention later this month. The finalized voter turnout figure of 24.4 percent still “beats” the 25 percent record low set in 1988. (AP)
