The Lewiston Fire Department says the campaign to educate citizens about illegal fireworks appears to be working.
Fire Chief Garry DeJong says the number of fireworks-related incidents were down significantly over the Independence Day holiday.

Following several years of fireworks-related incidents, Lewiston officials decided to put more of an emphasis on education and enforcement of fireworks ordinances already on the books.
Chief DeJong says he has been pleased with the response he’s seen from citizens.

Violators could face a $300 fine and up to six months in jail.
