A Craigmont man is in custody following a nearly 5 ½ hour standoff.
According to a release from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a disturbing the peace complaint early Friday morning at the Wagon Wheel Trailer Park on Prairie Avenue in Craigmont.
Upon arrival deputies reported seeing a man who witnesses say was yelling that he wanted to kill somebody and wasn’t afraid of going to jail.
The man, identified as 47-year-old Clifford Anderson was seen running into a residence where he allegedly refused to communicate with authorities. Deputies reported hearing a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot from inside. Police phoned Anderson inside the residence but upon answering the phone, Anderson hung up.
Lewis County officials brought in the Idaho County SWAT Team and members of the N.I.C.I. C.E.R.T Team to help end the situation safely. At approximately 4:45 a.m., the sheriff’s office gave the go ahead to use a CS gas canister to coax Anderson out of the residence. At 4:50 a.m. Anderson was taken into custody and transported to the Lewis County Jail in Nezperce.
No injuries were reported.
