Clarkston man pleads not guilty to charges in fatal crash

A 20-year-old Clarkston man has pleaded not guilty to charges connected to last month’s car accident that killed a 16-year-old Lewiston girl.

Gilberto Garcia is being held in the Asotin County Jail on charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault for reportedly drinking and speeding on a gravel road prior to a July 21 rollover accident west of Clarkston. Ashley Nelson, who was ejected from the 2002 Chevrolet pickup, died at the scene. There were two other passengers in the vehicle.

Garcia’s next court appearance is August 21. If convicted, Garcia could face a maximum sentence of up to 4-and-a-half years in prison.
