In a five-way battle for an Asotin County Commission seat, Republican Richard (Doc) Eggleston received 30 percent in the District No. 2 contest, followed by Democrat Jim Fuller with 28 percent.
Mark Heuett’s tally was 20 percent, Keith Delzer had 19 percent, and Ron Lamb, 3 percent. The top two vote getters will face off in November for the seat now held by Commissioner Don Brown, who is retiring after three terms.
Asotin County Auditor Darla McKay said about 400 ballots are left to count in the primary election, depending on how many arrive in today’s mail. The next tabulation will be conducted Thursday.
The other race in Asotin County is between incumbent Brian Shinn, who states no party preference, and Mark Wood, a Republican. Shinn received 64 percent Tuesday, compared to 36 percent for Wood. Both candidates in the District No. 1 contest move on to the general election.
Voter turnout in Asotin County was almost 33 percent with 4,269 ballots cast. The general election is November 6.
