The Cache Creek Fire has consumed some 71,000 acres along Hells Canyon in Wallowa and Asotin counties, though the north end of the fire remains secure.
Firefighters will work to improve and hold the Powerline Road, near the Imnaha River, on the southern portion of the fire. A total of ten helicopters will increase water delivery operations. Conditions have provided the opportunity to put direct handline along a portion of the southwest perimeter allowing firefighters to reduce the number of acres burned, though no large burnout operations are planned for Thursday.
Lower Imnaha Road/Dug Bar Road remains closed, beginning at the junction of Fence Creek north to the Dug Bar Landing on the Snake River. A Forest Area Closure remains in place on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest.
The fire was started by a lightning strike ten days ago. It’s being staffed by some 850 personnel and is about 45 percent contained.
