Weapon believed to be used in Rosalia murder pulled from Spokane River

Frank and Daniel Lazcano

Law enforcement officials believe they’ve recovered a weapon from the Spokane River that was used in the murder of a Rosalia man late last year.

Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers says divers from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office recovered an AK-47 rifle Tuesday morning. Investigators have known the approximate location of the rifle for several months, but have had trouble recovering it, due to high and swift water.

Myers believes it’s the weapon used to shoot 23-year-old Marcus Schur on Dec. 27. Schur’s body was later dumped in a creek near Bonnie Lake, where it was discovered in March.

24-year-old Frank Lazcano, of Pine City, and his brother, 20-year-old Daniel Lazcano of Spokane, have been charged with first-degree murder in the case. Both have pleaded not guilty.

Two others, 36-year-old Eli Lindsey, of Washtucna, and 35-year-old Lorin Carlton, of Rosalia, have been charged with rendering criminal assistance.
