The city of Clarkston won’t be contributing any money to the Asotin County Aquatic Center in the foreseeable future.
At a joint meeting Wednesday, city officials said unless there’s some dramatic upswing in revenues, Asotin County will not be getting any checks from the city to help offset funding shortfalls at the financially strapped facility.
Although disappointed, Asotin County officials said it helps them plan for the future, and they will now turn their attention to finding out what it would take to establish a parks and recreation district, which would enable them to collect property taxes from city and county residents exclusively for the aquatic center.
The outdoor water park and indoor pools do not generate enough money to cover maintenance and operation costs, and officials said they want to find a permanent revenue stream to cover the gap so the center can remain open.
