An Albion man was scheduled to appear in Whitman County Superior Court Monday for allegedly assaulting a deputy sheriff.
28-year-old Jerry Given also faces a charge of driving while intoxicated.
According to the county sheriff’s office, a deputy checked on a vehicle parked in the southbound lane on Palouse Albion Road at about 2 a.m. Saturday morning. Given was in the driver’s seat, initially unresponsive. When he awoke, he reportedly became aggressive and punched the deputy several times.
Given drove away at a high rate of speed, but was later located at his home was taken into custody without incident.
