A Washington State University professor has been arrested for felony rape of a child.
51-year-old Andrew Appleton was arraigned Wednesday morning for felony rape in Latah County magistrate court. He appeared in person with his defense attorney and the judge set his bond at $100,000.
Appleton is an associate professor in Political Science and began his career at WSU during a one-year stint in 1989. He left to work at a college in Buffalo, New York, but returned to WSU in 1994 and has been with the university ever since.
Appleton was arrested around noon Tuesday for felony rape of a minor. The victim, a family member, says she was intimidated and coerced into having sex with Appleton starting when she was 16 and continuing until she left the area.
Appleton’s next hearing is scheduled for October 3rd.
