New U.S. Census estimates show that Idaho’s median household income fell for the third year in a row in 2011.
The Idaho Department of Labor released a statement about the census data Thursday. The census estimates put Idaho’s median household income at about $43,300. That’s a nearly 9% drop from 2008.
Only eight other states have had three straight years of declining median household income, and only Nevada and Georgia recorded larger 3-year declines than Idaho.
About 16.5% of Idaho residents were living in poverty last year, nearly one percent more than in 2010. There were about 78,000 Idaho households receiving food stamps in 2011. (AP)
