Good weather helps north central Idaho firefighters; air advisory remains in effect

Good weather conditions Sunday helped crews establish lines around the perimeters of many of the region’s wildfires and kept flames from spreading.

Officials on the Sheep Fire, located north of Riggins near Lucile, say there was no fire growth Sunday except for a small spot fire on the southern rim. The 46,412-acre blaze. Is about 39 percent contained.

The McGuire Complex near Dixie, Orogrande and Comstock is now at 39,282 acres with 4 percent containment. The fire was most active in the Mallard Creek Meadows area about two miles northeast of Dixie and along a two-mile segment of Forest Road 222.

The Porcupine Fire Complex is estimated at 29,343 acres and zero percent contained. The Magruder Road is closed from the junction of Green Mountain Road to Observation Point for public safety.

The Powell SBW Complex near Lolo is burning on 52,535 acres, while the Moose Creek Ranger District fires are at 38,500 acres.

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality says an Air Quality Advisory remains in effect for the region. The air quality is considered “moderate” to “unhealthy for sensitive groups” and everyone is advised to limit outdoor exertion.
