Errors found on a map outlining the proposed annexation area of the Winchester Rural Fire District have prompted Lewis County officials to postpone a vote on establishing the taxing district until March.
The election on the annexation was scheduled to be decided Nov. 6. However, county officials say the map contained errors in the boundaries between the proposed annexation area and the existing fire district. That was enough to prompt the commissioners to cancel the election until the errors can be corrected.
The proposed annexation area would include property toward Reubens and Craigmont in the Winchester Rural Fire District. Those rural areas now have no fire district, and people living within their boundaries do not have fire protection coverage on private property.
