The University of Idaho has fired head football coach Robb Akey.
In a statement on Sunday, Athletic Director Rob Spear said he and UI President Duane Nellis felt it was important to make the move now to expedite the process of finding a replacement for next season.
Akey was 20-50 in five-plus seasons with the Vandals. Idaho is 1-7 this season after Saturday’s 70-28 loss at Louisiana Tech. Akey led the Vandals to a victory in the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, capping Idaho’s only winning season under Akey.
Offensive coordinator – and former Washington Strate University quarterback – Jason Gesser will serve as interim coach. (Idaho Statesman)
