Two Canyon County sheriff’s deputies were shot by a southern Idaho man late Tuesday night in Caldwell. The suspect was also shot.
Authorities say the shooter, 27-year-old Kyle Batt, of Caldwell, and one of the two deputies remain hospitalized Wednesday.
Investigators say the deputies went to a home in the 24000 block of Sheryl Lane west of Caldwell at about 11 p.m. Tuesday to look for Batt, who was suspected of aggravated assault earlier in the day. Before the deputies arrived at the door, Batt opened fire, wounding both officers. At least one of them returned fire, and at least one bullet struck Batt.
More law enforcement arrived and began searching the area for Batt. At about 2:45 a.m., Canyon County SWAT officers found Batt hiding in a garage near the site of the shooting. Confronted by the officers, Batt shot himself. His condition is unknown.
The incident remains under investigation. (Idaho Statesman)
