Idaho County authorities continue to investigate last week’s domestic incident in Grangeville after a woman allegedly stabbed her husband, and he shot her twice.
According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, 77-year-old Pete Ketcham called the police on the afternoon of Oct. 18 as he drove himself to the hospital, claiming his wife had just stabbed him in the back with a kitchen knife.
The sheriff’s office then received a call from the wife, 77-year-old Barbara Ketcham, who reported that she had been shot by her husband. The woman was found on the floor of the couple’s home with gunshot wounds in her left hand and hip. Investigators say three bullets were recovered from the home, as were four shell casings from a 9 mm pistol.
Barbara Ketcham was examined by a psychologist in Lewiston, and it was determined she suffers from dementia. She was released to a long-term care facility.
Prosecutors say her mental state could be a factor in determining whether any charges are filed in the case.
